Milan is a city in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. Leonardo spent 17 years there working for Lodovico Sforza, the Duke of Milan. Leonardo's painting The Last Supper is housed in Milan's convent of Sta. Maria delle Grazie. Milan is also known for its colossal Gothic cathedral, the Duomo. For many years during the Renaissance, French rulers battled the Sforza family for control of Milan; in a succession of wars, the city was conquered by one force, only to be reclaimed by the other.
